The Bumblebee Scholarship Fund ("BSF") was formed due to the growing crisis of mental health problems within our population of young adults. Mental health is one of the most important and neglected aspects of human well-being according to the World Health Organization. Among U.S. adolescents (aged 12-17) three million had serious thoughts of suicide. 70% of youth in the juvenile justice system have a diagnosable mental health condition. 

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14, and the 3rd leading cause of death among those aged 15-24 in the U.S.   I am the founder, and my son was 22.   

The statistical lists go on and on, and the percentages show no signs of diminishing.

That is why "BSF" has decided to dedicate its support to students who want to pursue, or advance, their career in Mental Health. We will offer healthcare scholarships for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, and other related disciplines.  We believe that by providing scholarships to students studying within the field of Mental Health, we can help them achieve their academic goals and contribute to the advancement of the field, and more importantly, in reducing the shortage of mental health care professionals, which has become a growing concern. And we need them now, more than ever. There is a huge gap between the demand and supply of mental health services, especially in low and middle-income communities, and we will help in bridging this gap by assisting those who would not otherwise be able to afford their degree in mental health.

"BSF" will continuously strive to educate our community on the mental health issues within our population of young adults. To let the public and families who are struggling with the lack of knowledge, and access to mental healthcare for their loved ones, know that there are available resources and help, and that we all must participate in removing the stigma attached to this difficult and crippling crisis. There should not be one reason for young adults and their families to struggle finding available help for their mental health issues and feelings of despair. 

We rely on contributions and donations from our friends, family, public and private donors, corporate sponsorships and grants, and individuals such as yourself. These contributions will fund our scholarships, and we hope to provide a minimum scholarship of $10K during our first year, and increase that amount yearly, until one day, we can offer zero tuition obligation to all our scholarship recipients as we grow.  

"BSF" also envisions and aims to assist in the implementation of more community crisis-response centers to be available to those in need, as well as community gathering places where young adults can discuss and connect with their peers who are also struggling with similar situations. 

This is our loneliest generation. It will take time……we will be known…...we will make a difference.
